Germany

The Baltic is also called the „Mare Balticum“ in Latin. Its name derives from its geographical location from the viewpoint of the Germanic peoples. The Baltic has an area of 410,000 km2 and is an up to 460 m deep semi- enclosed sea. In the East, the Neva and various other waterways connect the Baltic to the Volga, the White Sea, the Black Sea, the Sea of Asov and the Caspian Sea. The Baltic with its diverse beauty as well as the vastness of the landscape and the sea have long-since fascinated artists, crafts people and writers. With its unique charm, the Baltic is one huge scenic backdrop for art and cultural events of all kinds. Old buildings and ruins, huge cathedrals, castles and romantic parks provide excellent settings for concerts, festivals or theatre performances.

The climatic conditions in the Baltic are regarded as especially benefi cial to health. Many tourists have long-since used their holiday on the coast as a health treatment.
